haha! hh squirming in her seat, no confidence in the speaker from the leader of the house..... some one please tell me when this god awful party is ending..... just a thought... is there a sense of third term deja vu here...... should a government only be allowed to serve for 2 terms of say 5 years? or usual 4? Or should we have smaller intermediate elections to check we still have who we want representing us? aggregate the local council elections???

It would appear that the honourable lord mandelson has stuck his oar in... one wondered how long it would take him to; he just couldnt resist. As i commented on Iain Dale's blog, this is a man who is merely representing his constituents....oooops, i forgot, he has been appointed via that real old boys network, the lords....

I have a thought....maybe there should be some kind of qualification process to be an MP...... it is not a complete accident that all but a couple of our pm's have been to oxford or cambridge. While they may have had varying degrees of success in the position, one does not end up in that position by accident (JM excepted!). Now while it is true that such archaic and elitist barriers cannot and must not be used in the 21st century, we must find some way of guaranteeing that those whom we present wtih public office are 'fit for purpose' (where is he????).
Where will it end? I wonder whether we have all taken leave of our senses. As a great friend of mine said time and again...."officers and men, dear boy, officers and men". People as a rule fail to organise themselves into a coherant and organised group without any leadership. Not all men (in the biblical sense) are made to lead and this has to be respected. But htis cannot be an excuse for abject failure. Time and again we see leaders failing to carry out their duty. In the case of Baby P, we have a head of Children's services forced to resign by the secretary of state. Yes, it is true that persons lower down the food chain made mistakes but if you are the top dog the buck stops with you. it would appear that one is happy with the responsibility when all is going well but when a situation goes down the swanny there is a terrible unwillingness to stand up and fulfill ones responsibilities.
We see a similar situation with Damian Green. The Metropolitan Police, with all their many thousands of officers and convoluted management structure seem to be in the same mess. From what we, the public know, it appears that powers brought in the protect us from terrorism have been used to interfere with the proper running of a democractic government and her majesty's opposition. Again, I say; officers and men.
As was commented in an excellent article in the Inde yesterday, maybe it is time for the 'men' to stand up and demand that our 'officers' actually do there job properly. If we are to follow, obey and serve, we must trust. The events of the last few days, including events further afield, have shown how vital the highest quality leadership is and will continue to be in the days, weeks and years ahead.
How do we ensure that these leaders are present in our midst? One thing is for sure; it will not happen by accident.
ps Is there a call for all the comment and editorials from the dailies to be brought together for people to read in one place? I know skynews do the front pages but.....
